Lift Someone Up!

As a kid, I loved watching professional wrestling. My favorite wrestler was Hulk Hogan. He was big, strong, and controlled his situation. At times, if someone was opposing him, he would pick them up and throw them out of his way.

This is great entertainment, but doesn’t work in real life. Many teams and organizations operate in confusion because of competition and unaddressed offenses. Team dynamics can turn into an emotional WWE match with hurtful words or passive aggression being used to perpetuate a culture retaliation. Words and actions are used to throw others out of the way in a battle for control.

Yet, genuine leadership chooses the path of humility. Instead of throwing others out of the way, like professional wrestlers, good leaders use their words and actions to edify, encourage, and lift others up spiritually.

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”

-Ephesians 4:29 ESV
