If you lead people, you likely spend a lot of time helping others manage their emotions — calming tensions, offering perspective, giving hope. It’s vital work, but it’s also heavy work. Over time, that emotional weight can quietly wear you down if you never pause to tend your own soul.
Leaders who care deeply for others must also learn to care wisely for themselves. Here are three alliterated reminders to help you stay healthy in heart and mind:
1. Pause to Process.
You can’t lead well if you don’t stop long enough to listen — to God, to your own body, and to your emotions. Reflection is not a waste of time; it’s part of responsible leadership.
2. Protect Your Peace.
Boundaries are not selfish; they’re sacred. Guard your rest, your joy, and the relationships that refill your soul. The people you lead need you rested, not running on fumes.
3. Pursue Presence.
It’s easy to substitute performance for presence — doing things for God without being with God. But renewal begins in relationship, not results.

You were never meant to carry everyone else’s burdens alone. Even Jesus withdrew to lonely places to pray.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
