Do you feel called to do something great, but also feel like you’re stuck right now? David understood this posture well. Psalm 32 reminds us that before guidance came humility. After David stopped trying to hide from God, God responded with a promise in verse 8: “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.” God does not shout directions from a distance. He draws close and guides with loving attention.

Like David, many of us experience callings that stretch beyond our current maturity. God may call us early, but formation takes time. David defeated Goliath early in his life, but he had many more lessons to learn and fell many more times in his life. Times of feeling stuck train us to say, “Speak, Lord,” and to chase after God—not because we are perfect, but because our hearts are set on Him.
Scripture reminds us that maturity and holiness are not optional for God’s people. We have been washed, sanctified, and made new; even when our feelings lag behind this truth. And in His love, God prunes what is dead or draining so that more fruit can grow. Yes, pruning hurts. But it also heals.
“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”
-John 15:2
