The Root of Peace

On the night that Jesus was born, angels appeared to a group of shepherds. They announced:

“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Luke 2:14 ESV

World peace has been dreamed about for as long as people have existed. Yet, wherever you have people, you have conflict, chaos, and war. Many societies have aimed for a great utopia, but it remains elusive through the efforts of people. Yet, when Jesus enters the world as a baby, His messengers declare that peace has entered the world as well. Jesus is peace and there cannot be true peace without Him.

Indeed, only Jesus is The Root of Peace. We only have peace with God because of what He did on the cross (Romans 5:1). Jesus trades His righteousness for the sin of believers. So when God looks at you He sees Christ’s righteousness. Further, Jesus has promised that we can have peace in a chaotic world, because He has already overcome the world (John 16:33).

Where are you experiencing conflict? This could be internal turmoil or issues among groups of people. Remember, there is no true peace without Christ! Where there are people, there is confusion and chaos. When we ground ourselves in anything but Christ, we set ourselves up for frustration and discord. Root yourself and your relationships in Christ and Christ alone, and you will have peace!

Prayer

“Jesus, where have I been seeking peace apart from You? You are the God of peace. Help me to be firmly rooted in my relationship with You and trust that You have overcome the world. Give me the inner spiritual stability that only comes from You. Amen.”

Meditation Scriptures

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” -John 14:27

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” -1 Thessalonians 5:23

“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.” -Isaiah 26:3
