What is God’s View of Women?

Sadly, many competent and godly women have been hurt and their gifts have been undervalued due to ignorance or chauvinism.

Yet, God created women to reflect His image just as much as men.

So God created man in his own image,
    in the image of God he created him;
    male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27 ESV

Anyone that cites the positions that men have in the Bible (leaders, husbands, etc.) to support domineering or chauvinistic views is severely misguided.

Pushing back on the misogynistic culture of his day, Paul writes:

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:27-28 ESV (bold added for emphasis)

Paul speaks to a culture that devalues women and says, “you are wrong!” In Christ, there is no distinction between female and male. What does that mean? Women and men are the same in that we have equal standing in the sight of God.

The Christian view is clear. Conversations about “roles” or “submission” are frivolous unless they start here. As much as any man or boy, every woman and girl on the planet displays the dignity, splendor, and glory of God.
