Beyond Borders: Our Shared Humanity

Immigrants and refugees are often seen as less than human, but they deserve the same respect and dignity as anyone else. They are often fleeing violence, poverty, and persecution in search of a better life. Before that, they are human beings, inherently worthy of dignity. By welcoming them with open arms, we can create a more just and compassionate world. I was saddened recently to hear that a state lawmaker in Missouri has proposed legislation that would allow residents to act as bounty hunters for illegal aliens in the state and make it a felony for someone to be in the state illegally.

In a world often divided by borders and beliefs, it’s crucial to remember our shared humanity. God teaches us to love our neighbors as ourselves, regardless of their nationality or background. By embracing diversity and practicing empathy, we can build bridges of understanding and foster a more compassionate world. Let’s strive to treat everyone with dignity and respect, recognizing the inherent worth of each individual.

“The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.”

-Psalm 146:9 NIV
