Dynamic Leadership Series Part 6
In Leadership is Exploration, we explored leadership as a courageous act of stepping into the unknown; an act of crossing boundaries, asking questions, and building bridges. But there’s another frontier just as vital and often more daunting: the terrain within.

Before we can lead others well, we must let God lead us inward.
Christian leadership begins with surrender. Not to a strategy or structure, but to the Spirit of God who is always forming us into the image of Christ. When we skip the inner work, we may look competent on the outside, but we risk becoming hollow, reactive, or even harmful. True leadership isn’t just about how far we go or how many people follow us. It’s about who we’re becoming along the way.
This is why the Psalms are filled with honest self-examination: “Search me, O God, and know my heart” (Psalm 139:23). And why Jesus constantly retreated to pray; not just for strength to lead, but to remain rooted in His identity and purpose.
Here are a few reflective questions that mark the inward journey:
- Am I leading from communion with Christ or from performance and pressure?
- What unhealed parts of me show up when I feel challenged or criticized?
- Where have I allowed fear, ambition, or insecurity to guide my decisions?
Inner exploration is not optional for Christian leaders; it’s essential. Because the people we lead don’t just follow our words or strategies. They follow the tone of our souls.
Leadership is exploration, but the most transformative journey begins with a prayerful, honest look within. Let Christ meet you there.

Prayer
“Jesus, help me to lead solely out of communion with You instead of a desire to please others or even myself. Holy Spirit, reveal what areas of my heart and mind are wounded and need Your healing grace. I lay all of my anxieties and aspirations at Your feet. Lead me in the way that I should go.”
